6, 2009) - A Planning Board member with deep roots in Middletown
has been selected to run as a the Republican candidate for Township
Committee. Steve Massell, 40, who lives on 31 Joyce Lane, Woodlake
Heights in the River Plaza section of town will run for the one
three-year term on the governing body which is to be filled this
year.
“I’m very
excited about being given this opportunity and deeply appreciate
the support of the Middletown Township Republican Party. I look
forward to working with the members of the Township Committee.
Each member brings a different set of skills to the table. I believe
my background in business, finance and real estate will fit well
with the skills of the current members in keeping the needs and
interests of residents our number one priority,” Massell said.
“As a member of a life-long Middletown family which has always
believed in and been involved in Middletown, I also plan to keep
Middletown as great as we have found and enjoyed it,” he added.
Massell, a
Middletown Township native, grew up in the Lincroft/River Plaza
section of the township. His father, Jerry, is a former township
attorney and a retired New Jersey Judge. His mother, Betty, ran
the Garden Center at Foodtown in Red Bank for many years and was
President of Middletown’s RFD Garden Club. His brother Gerald,
is a Middletown attorney who also serves as Prosecutor in the
Township’s Municipal court system.
Steve is a
graduate of Lincroft Grammar and Thompson Middle schools and Middletown
High School South. He was a member of Lincroft’s little league
and soccer programs.
At South he
was an accomplished athlete serving as a member of the varsity
wrestling, track, golf and gymnastics teams with the last winning
the State Championship in 1986.
Steve received
a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Business
Administration at Curry College, Massachusetts which he followed
with International Studies in Wild Life Management at the School
for Field Studies in Nairobi-Kenya and Eastern European History,
Soviet Union, Moscow/Russia.
His work experience
has included manager for the ORVIS store he ran in Darien, Connecticut
and financial services for American Express. Since returning to
Middletown more than five years ago, he has served as a licensed
NJ Real Estate Agent and is with the Coldwell Banker office in
Middletown Township.
Steve serves
on the Township Planning Board and is an Assistant Coach in MYAA
T. Ball and St. Mary Soccer. Steve’s wife, Emily Dunleavy Massell,
works for a private equity firm in Manhattan. They have four children,
twin 6-year old boys (Edward and Nathaniel) and two girls Delia
(4) and Virginia (1).
